Today you will visit Santa Maria di Leuca, often simply called Leuca. Did you know that it is the most south-western location in Italy? During the tour, you will contemplate the city port, located between the Adriatic and Ionian Seas, and the lighthouse of Santa Maria di Leuca. This construction, which stands on Punta Meliso, is over 48 meters high! You will visit the church of Cristo Re, built in the center of the Leuca marina, and then continue the walk towards some of the numerous nineteenth-century villas that have made this Apulian town famous. You will also see the Corinthian column that stands out on the square of the basilica and the famous Monumental Waterfall, an architectural work completed in 1939, which constitutes the final point of the Apulian Aqueduct.
Finally, you will enter the Basilica of Santa Maria Finibus Terrae, to learn about this religious building dating back to the 18th century. Here once stood a pagan temple dedicated to the cult of the goddess Minerva, as evidenced by the inscription on an altar still preserved today inside the church.
