The Umbra Forest is an unmissable destination for trekking lovers.
As to why this nature reserve is called the Umbra Forest, there are different schools of thought. One of the most accredited is that according to which the name derives from the fact that in ancient times this part of the Apulian territory was inhabited by the ancient Umbrian people who were a prehistoric Celtic tribe.
According to other explanations, the name derives from the fact that the forest offers very large and shaded spaces thanks to the thick and dense vegetation.
There is so much to see inside the Umbra Forest in the company of our naturalist guide, starting from the wide assortment of flora. In fact, this natural reserve extends up to a maximum height of 830 meters so this is synonymous with wide variety from this point of view.
There is a total of over 2000 different plant species, which has allowed the Forest to be seen as a sort of botanical garden, unmissable for enthusiasts. The stratification of the flora is truly incredible, as you can admire extraordinary specimens of beech or find many types of herbaceous flora such as cyclamens, violets and wild orchids.
